2025 SELECTION PROCESS
In 2025, ABH received 31,763 applications, the highest in the competition’s history, with submissions from all 54 African countries - reinforcing ABH’s status as one of the continent’s largest and most inclusive entrepreneurial competitions.

The 2025 edition also marked a significant step forward in ABH’s commitment to innovation. For the first time, ABH deployed ABi, its AI-powered co-host built on Qwen Turbo, which was initially unveiled at the 6th ABH Summit & Finale in Kigali in March 2025. Designed to enhance the applicant journey and improve operational efficiency, ABi played an active role throughout the competition.

By delivering real-time support to thousands of applicants and assisting with eligibility screening, ABi helped streamline the review process while ensuring timely, accessible guidance for entrepreneurs across the continent. Its integration demonstrated how thoughtfully applied technology can strengthen both efficiency and inclusivity within large-scale entrepreneurial programs.

ABH’s rigorous selection process ensured that only the most promising entrepreneurs advanced to the next stages:

Also, the 2025 Semi-Finals marked the first time ABH hosted this stage in a francophone country and the first time in Senegal, highlighting the country’s growing influence as a dynamic hub for entrepreneurship and innovation in Africa. Held in person, the semi-finals featured live pitches that allowed judges to closely evaluate each entrepreneur’s vision, business model sustainability, and potential for long-term social impact. Following rigorous deliberation, it was through this stage that the Top 10 Finalists were selected to advance to the Grand Finale.
Round 1 – Online Application Review
From 8th June to 6th July 2025, all eligible applications were evaluated by a panel of over 280 ABH Round 1 Judges, composed of business professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors from across Africa and beyond. Each application was independently assessed by three judges using ABH’s established criteria and scoring matrix. The Top 50 Finalists were determined based on the average scores from all judges, ensuring that only the most promising and impactful entrepreneurs advanced to the next stage of the competition.
Round 2 – Video Call Interviews
Between 21st July and 3rd August 2025, the Top 50 Finalists participated in in-depth, 1.5-hour video interviews with three Round 2 Judges; senior executives, investors, and experienced business leaders. These judges evaluated the strength, scalability, and social impact of each business. Based on their scores, the Top 20 Finalists were selected to advance. Following the interviews, all Top 20 businesses underwent a rigorous due diligence process conducted by Plus Venture Capital, complemented by ABH Team site visits in their respective countries. This thorough verification phase ensured operational integrity, impact validation, and readiness before moving on to the semi-final stage.
Round 3 – Semi-Final Pitches
The Top 20 Finalists gathered in Dakar, Senegal, on 10 - 11th September 2025 for the semi-final stage, presenting their ventures to a distinguished panel of judges. The event was conducted live, with an audience of entrepreneurs, investors, young people, and media professionals creating an energetic atmosphere that brought the pitches to life. Judges Jason Pau, Hasan Haider, Moulaye Táboure, and Evelyne Dioh Simpa evaluated each business on its innovation, social impact, and growth potential for growth. After careful consideration, the panel selected the Top 10 Finalists who would move forward to the Grand Finale in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of Alibaba Philanthropy and Senegalese sponsors Wave, Sonatel, and InTouch Group, alongside outreach partners including Haske Ventures, Impact Hub Dakar, SenStartup, Seedstars, and African Leadership University (ALU).
